Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
